08.09.06: top GCSE grades for star pupils
Four star-pupils from Heworth Grange, achieved something incredible this year.
They managed to attain what most people can only imagine possible when receiveing their summer 2006 GCSE results.
Their hard work and concentration in lessons finally paid off, in a mammoth
style! All four of these pupils scored either marks within the top ten or even
top five highest scores in the entire country in their relative subject areas.
Along with other unhealthy foods rich in saturated fat, french fries and chips have been gradually phased out and ultimately been removed from the lunch menu at Heworth Grange and have been replaced with a much broader variety of healthier, tastier options.
2006 has seen a large investment in new information and communications technology with the installation of new computer systems and peripheral devices throughout the school. This continues into the September 2006 term and has proven to have been a worthy investment.
01.02.06: dance studio gets re-modelled with students touch
A once, uninspiring space used for dance, drama and PE has been transformed thanks to the creativity of students and teachers alike, the once bland hall was given a professional and contemporary street-art feel. This was achieved by vivid imagery with modern spray painting techniques and a musical theme even showing song lyrics and extracts of music tablature painted into the brickwork!
March saw a well planned and rehearsed play for the CPA department and Youth Theatre, running not only for a night of success but for nearly an entire week of crowd pleasing.
The school was successful in a joint bid by South Tyneside and Gateshead Local Authorities for the Building Schools for the Future initiative. This is a major Government initiative aimed at transforming schools across the country.
In 2005 the school was awarded Arts College Status. This has brought tremendous benefits to the school and the community. It has established Heworth Grange even more firmly as a focus for artistic activity in the Borough. The school has also been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Gold Award for the provision, range and quality of its Arts work. In addition, we have gained The Healthy Schools Award and, through charitable work, the Princess Diana Memorial Award.
New for 2006, the heworth grange website is fully launched both on campus and via the world wide web.
The information superhighway has been utilised, embracing the newest, most dynamic technology at our fingertips, the aim of which is to ensure the site's information is accessible by all.
The school's arts college December opening was hailed a successs, following an extravaganza of a night, packed full with entertainment and activities, showcasing
existing
succes and hinting at the potential for future growth and
achievements
in light of the new 'arts college' status.
